Putain, le retour! Ce soir, tout Lyon s'est précipité voir cette merde de Bérurier Noir et rate le retour de la Joke, qui a laissé de coté la soupe commerciale dans laquelle elle était tombée pour retrouver son coté caterpillar: les vieux tubes, mais surtout des nouveaux tubes qui DECHIRENT GRAVE ! C'est puissant, agressif et glauque, leur nouveau batteur Martin Atkins est terrible! Le terrifiant "Extremities" va sortir qq mois plus tard,en attendant, ces nouveaux morceaux nous donnent la chair de poule, à mes potes Boulon, Jésus et moi!

What a welcome back! Tonight, everyone in Lyon went to see that Berurier Noir crap band & misses the fucking Joke.Gone is the commercial stuff, back is the huge Caterpillar sound: old hits, but especially the new songs that TOTALLY DESTROY! Heavy, aggressive & dark stufff,their new drummer Martin Atkins is awesome! The terrifying "Extremities" will come out shortly after, but tonight, these songs give us the creeps, me & my pals Boulon & Jesus!

Festival sur 2 jours devant....personne! Rien d'extraordinaire.Parkinson joue avec les Têtes Brulées, un groupe africain à crêtes soit-disant Punk, mais qui joue cette musique Africaine dont je raffole pas trop à l'époque! Mais sympas, les mecs!

2 days festival w/ a dead crowd! Nothing great.Parkinson opens for les Têtes brulées, an African Punk looking band that sounds like any African music, not my thing, but nice guys!

Motörhead

Ha j'aurais au moins vu Lemmy autrement que dans une boite à Londres en train de jouer aux machines à sous! Classe!

Suis sur Montpellier pour enregistrer le 1er LP de Parkinson Square, on fait une pause pour aller voir ce groupe local avec d'ex OTH massacrer une reprise des Vandals en Français! No comment!

Les VRP

Un autre grand nom de l'alternatif Français d'alors...mais eux au moins sont drôles et se prennent pas au sérieux! Ha la batterie avec une valise et des balais de chiottes....Je me fends la gueule pendant plus d'une heure, excellent souvenir!

Another big name from the French alt scene...but at least they're hilarious & don't take themselves seriously! Ho the drums w/ a suitcase & some toilet brooms for sticks....I'm having fun for over an hour, great souvenir!

Plus que Charlie harper comme membre originel, ça sent le réchauffé et la fin chez ce groupe qui a bercé mes 14-15 ans...décevant !

Only Charlie Harper left from the original line-up, smells bad & like the end for this band that provided the soundtrack to my youth back in 1980....big disappointment!

Suicidal Tendencies

Le Hardcore émerge petit à petit en France, surtout à Paris pour le moment.
Déception avec ce concert, trop métal pour moi, même si les qq morceaux de leur 1er LP
me rappellent de bons souvenirs.

HC is finally paving its way in France, especially in Paris for the moment.
So-so show, too metal for me, even if the few tunes they play off their 1st LP remind me some good moments.

Parkinson Square ouvre au Farenheit à Paris pour ce groupe HC Polonais culte d’avant la chute du mur.
Pendant que je matraque mes fûts, je vois un mec hilare devant, avec qui je fais connaissance: Thomas, des Burning Heads !
Un peu tristos, les polonais!

J’y suis allé par curiosité, le rock US me branchait plus beaucoup, mais ce fût plutôt une bonne surprise, bons morceaux, bonne énergie!

Went there out of curiosity, wasn’t much into US rock, but finally a good surprise, good sounds, good energy!

Les Thugs

Le 1er concert de notre nouveau groupe de hardcore, Parkinson Square, se passe dans un local anar sur les pentes de la Croix-Rousse à Lyon, en 1ere partie des Thugs, y’a pire pour commencer ! Leur mélange de pop/punk/HC est excellent, j’aurais l’occasion de recroiser par la suite ces adorables Angevins à de multiples reprises !

First show for our new HC band, Parkinson Square, opening for les Thugs in a anarchist squat on the upper-part of Lyon, there are worse premieres!
Their mix of pop/punk/HC is excellent, I’ll get to meet w/ these lovable guys several times later on!

Midnight Oil

Complet, des turcs à moustaches font du marché noir avec des kids de 14 ans, je trouve une place au prix normal, le concert ne valait même pas ça ! Chiant au bout de 3 morceaux…

Sold-out, so some big-moustached turks are selling black market tickets to 14 years-old kids, i get to get in for the regular price, but the show wasn’t even worth that! Boring after 3 songs…

Encore le Rex club, concert OK de ce groupe anglais qui sonne..australien!

Rex club again, good show from this UK band that sounds…aussie !

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Et oui, encore eux! Après avoir vu leur 1er concert européen au Dingwalls de Londres 3 ans plus tôt, je pouvais pas manquer leur 1ere date francaise !
C’est la 5ème fois que je les vois, je préviens donc mes voisins de la fosse de ce qu’ils vont se prendre dans la gueule !
Je fais la connaissance de Stef, bassiste de Flitox et futur Treponem Pal, qui est encore aujourd’hui un super-pote.
Toujours aussi cool de voir ce groupe dans une petite salle, 2 ou 300 personnes hallucinent devant ce groupe précurseur.
Au rappel, je réclame « we got the neutron bomb », le chanteur me répond « ho really ?! », fun !
Après le show, je discute avec le soundman des Red Hot, Chris Grayson, sympa…mais le pauvre finira assassiné pour de sombres histoires de came qq années plus tard !

Yes,them again ! After seeing their 1st ever euro date at London’s Dingwalls 3 years earlier, I couldn’t miss their 1st French date!
As it’s the 5th time I see them, I’m telling my pit buddies about the kick in the nuts they’re about to get!
I meet Stef, Flitox’s bassman & future Treponem Pal, who’s remained my close buddy to this day.
Always great to see this band in a small club, 2 or 300 people are hallucinating in front of this ahead-of-its-time combo.
For the encore, I’m shouting “we got the neutron bomb”, the singer goes “ho,really?”, funny!
After the show, I get to chat w/ their sound guy, Chris Grayson, cool dude, but the poor guy will end slaughtered on some shitty dope deal years later!

Public Enemy

J’ai réussi à rentrer à ce concert secret et complet donné dans un sous-sol lugubre parisien, Novembre 87.300 fans de hiphop (que des mecs !) sont là, pas ma scène, mais pas mal d’énergie pour un mouvement encore underground à cette époque.Pas mon truc musicalement…

Was able to get inside the gloomy Parisian club for that secret & sold-out show, november 87.
300 hip-hop fans around (mostly guys!), not my scene but lots of energy for what was still an underground movement at the time.Not my thing musically…

Peter Murphy of Bauhaus

Encore la Loco à Paris, me fais le concert de l'ex chanteur des mythiques Bauhaus 2 soirs de suite, plutôt cool, surtout la reprise du "the light pours out of me" de Magazine, un de mes groupes fétiches !

Once again, la Loco in Paris for the ex singer of the mythical Bauhaus, 2 nights in a row, cool shows, especially for his cover of "the light pours out of me" from one of my fave band ever, Magazine !

Meat Puppets

Me tape mon premier boulot à Paris à 22 ans, me fait les nuits à la Locomotiv et surprise, y croise les Meat Puppets et leur country-punk ! Leur 1er LP sur SST était vraiment déjanté, le concert est pas mal, le trio joue devant 30 pelés, ça me rappelle mes vacances aux US !
Qui aurait prédit que plus tard, ces mecs joueraient leurs propres morceaux sur MTV avec Nirvana?!

1st job in Paris at 22, going out to la Locomotive at nights, & surprize, I’m catching the Meat Puppets & their country-punk there! Their 1st LP on SST was weird, the show’s not bad, only 30 people there, reminds me of my US vacation!
Who could have bet then that these guys would later be on MTV, playing their own songs w/ Nirvana?

Scream club

5 groupes de mauvais hard rock avec coupes de cheveux-caniches à se taper pour profiter du Scream club de LA, mais putain……y’a des bimbos californiennes de partout, y’en a même une qui nous parle de « ménage a trois » en francais dans le texte ! On pète un plomb avec le moz..et pas grâce à la musique !
