J'ai attendu 7 longues années avant de pouvoir retourner aux US, et à peine arrivé dans Manhattan, mon sac sur le dos,je tombe sur le comité d'accueil , une affiche géante sur laquelle sont inscrits les mots magiques suivants : the Effigies, Toxic Reasons, 7 Seconds, Cro-Mags & GBH live at the Ritz !!!!Je cherche fièvreusement la date :c'est ce soir !!Yeehaw !! Suis fan absolu des 3 premiers groupes, les Cro-Mags viennent juste de sortir leur 1er LP,donc je connais pas encore,et GBH....bof !
A peine posé à l'hotel où je rejoint Alain, un pote vendeur de Jazz à la Fnac de Lyon, on fonce au Ritz, grande salle de 2000 places, et là je me trouve nez à nez avec Jah en personne...HR,des Bad Brains, ainsi que son frangin de batteur !Je vois aussi qq skins sur-tatoués dont Harley & John-Joseph des Cro-mags, ils font peur...!
Déception,les excellents Effigies de Chicago ne jouent pas,dommage...Toxic Reasons a vite fait de me consoler avec leur set énergique tiré de "Bullets for You", leur meilleur LP,que j'ai pas mal écouté les mois précedents...Leur batteur balance 2 morceaux au chant,il assure grave !Quand à 7 Seconds, c'est du délire dans la salle et sur scène : ça stagedive dur !Pour mon 1er show Hardcore aux US, je suis gâté !Les morceaux de "the Crew",que j'ai acheté à Londres 2 ans plus tôt, tuent et même leurs titres plus lents de "New Wind",qui vient de sortir,sont pas mal.Je ne le sais pas encore, mais 4 ans plus tard, je retrouverais Joe,le bassiste, comme voisin en Californie !Cro -Mags déboule vers 2H du matin, pour le plus grand plaisir de tous les skins présents , c'est brutal et boeuf à souhait, trop pour mon corps fatigué par 22 heures d'affilée de voyage et d'aventures.Je fatigue au bout de 7 morceaux et rentre dormir un peu, pas le courage d'attendre GBH !Welcome back to NYC !
I've waited for 7 long years togo back to the US, & as soon I'm downtown Manhattan, my bag on my back, I'm going nuts at the giant poster saying those magical words : the Effigies, Toxic Reasons, 7 Seconds, Cro-Mags & GBH live at the Ritz !!!! I'm madly looking at the date: it's tonight !Yeehaw !!I'm an absolute fan of the first 3 bands, the Cro-Mags just put out their 1 st LP, so I don't know them yeat, & GBH...well..!
Just a short stop at the hotel where I meet w/ Alain, a friend from Lyon who's a jazz records seller, & we're heading off to the Ritz, big hall of 2000, where i run into Jah himself..HR of the Bad Brains, w/ his bro Earl Hudson !There are some scary,nasty looking tattooed skinheads in the persons of Harley & John-Joseph of the Cro-Mags !
Too bad,the great Effigies from Chicago cancelled...But Toxic Reasons give me no reasons to be sad about that w/ their high-energy set from "Bullets for you", their best LP, that i've been listening for months...Their drummer sing a couple of songs while drumming,he's great !7 Seconds kicks some severe butts in the crowd & onstage: lots of stagedive !I'm a lucky mofo for my 1 st US HC show !The songs from "the Crew" which I bought in London 2 years before, are insane,& even their slower stuff from the newly-released "new wind" are quite good.Little did I know then that I'd have Joe,their bass-player, as a neighbour in California 2 years later !
Cro-Mags come onstage at 2 AM, to the Skins greatest pleasure, it's loud & brutal,way too much for my tired body,fried after 22 hours of travel & jet lag. I give up after 7 songs & go get some sleep, don't care for GBH !Welcome back to NYC !
